Cocktail attire has always been a popular choice for outfits but it’s a simple thing to mess up and the reason for that is because people don’t ever talk about the simple dress codes the cocktail attire has. You can find people giving out advice all over the place for this type of style but they never talk about the rules or the dress codes. We bet you’ve broken at least one of the rules we are about to discuss below.
Don’t Wear Anything Too Revealing:
One of the EASIEST things to mess up is wearing something too revealing. This simple thing is enough to mess up the outfit but not enough to ruin it so there is a fine line that you’ll be dancing on.
Keep Hemlines and Necklines Appropriate:
Keeping hemlines and necklines appropriate is something you should do, but this is often overlooked, so make sure to keep an eye on them and make sure they look right (like as shown above). A normal rule of thumb for this is to act like your boss will see you in this outfit, as there is a between this outfit and one for a night out.
Don’t Wear Jeans With This
The problem with wearing jeans is that you run a risk of looking underdressed with this style of outfits. With that being said, people can still pull it off but you do have to take into account the risk.
Wear Sleek Trousers Instead
Now, these do not share the same problems as jeans do, so it’s not a bad idea to try these bad boys sometimes when the rest of the outfit matches. A simple pair of sleek trousers can go a long way if you chose to add them to your outfit.
Do Not Carry an Oversized Bag:
The easiest way to ruin an outfit is by throwing a huge bag over your shoulder and the cocktail style is no exception to that rule. A simple small bag should go a long way (As shown in the picture above).
Do Use a Clutch:
As mentioned above, a simple way to mess up any outfit is by adding a big bag to it or over your shoulder. But adding a small bag can go a long way in making you and your outfit look more elegant and refined.
Don’t Show Up in Wrinkled Garments:
It does not matter what the outfit is made of, or coloured, wrinkles in clothing will always be noticeable, will look unprofessional, and will look a little sloppy so don’t forget to get out as many as you can before going out.
Use a Steamer:
As mentioned above, an outfit with wrinkles will look sloppy and unrefined so it’s always a good idea to get them out before going out. A good way to do that is to use a simple steamer.
